Other Activities Other Activities of the Society Parent Education and Support Group Parents are invited to talks given by professionals organized by the Society to help them understand more about their child and his/her disabilities. Parents are required to spend at least 1 week at the Centre to observe their children being trained and to carry out the same training at home, especially if the child has behavioral problems. Counseling is also provided for parents and caregivers. Outings The children are taken for outings to help them integrate with society at large and also to provide them enjoyment. They have been taken to the zoo, planetarium and a variety of parties hosted by various organizations. Staff Training The centre provides in-service training for the teachers through its Occupational Therapist and also by volunteer therapists and clinical psychologist. Teachers are also sent for courses and workshops organized by other organizations which are pertinent to the needs of the centre. Educational visits are also organized for teachers and parents to expose them to the different types of training centre / programs available in the country. Criteria for Selection of Children Individuals with very low intelligence or multiple handicaps (physical, visual, auditory, epilepsy,etc) but :- 1. Who can still respond to skills training using legs, hands and jaws. 2. Who can profit from systematic habit training. 3. Who can still learn simple communications and manual skills, basic health and safety habits. 4. Who are unable to receive care and training from other organizations for the handicapped in Malaysia.
